What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places in your browser when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work correctly, to remember preferences, and to give the website's owners an understanding of how people use it.
Cookies are not programmes and cannot run code on your device. They simply store small amounts of information — for example, your language preference or whether you have seen our cookie notice.
Cookies we use
We use four categories of cookies. Details of each are below.
Essential cookies · always active
These are required for the website to function. Without them, core features — such as page navigation and form submission — would not work. They cannot be disabled.
Examples: session identifier, cookie consent record · Duration: session or up to 12 months
Analytics cookies · optional
These help us understand how visitors use the site — which pages are viewed most, how long people spend on them, and where they come from. This information is collected in aggregate and does not identify individuals.
Examples: Google Analytics (_ga, _gid) · Duration: up to 26 months
Marketing cookies · optional
These may be set by advertising partners to show relevant content to people who have visited our site. We use these sparingly and only where relevant to our educational programmes.
Examples: ad network identifiers · Duration: up to 12 months
Preference cookies · optional
These remember settings you have chosen, such as your language or region, so you do not need to set them again on your next visit.
Examples: language setting, display preferences · Duration: up to 12 months
Third-party cookies
Some cookies on our site are set by third-party services, such as Google Analytics. These services have their own privacy and cookie policies. We encourage you to review them:
- Google Analytics — used to understand website traffic in aggregate. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We do not allow third-party services to use data collected via our site for purposes other than providing services to us.
